We deliver to areas around Gilwern including Llanelly Hill, Clydach, Govilon, Llanfoist and Abergavenny.
We are striving to reduce waste wherever possible so we will be using fully reusable boxes. Each customer will be allocated 2 boxes so that the previous week’s box can be collected when your full box is delivered. All this means is that you will need to leave your empty box out ready for us to collect on a Thursday morning.
We will deliver your weekly veg box directly to your door on Thursdays using our zero emissions electric van.
It’s not a problem we can leave it somewhere cool e.g porch, under a tree or with a neighbour. Just let us know where is best for you.
If you are away, you have the option of gifting your share to a neighbour or friend or you can choose to donate your share. This means it will be delivered to Abergavenny Cwtch Angels to be gifted to a household in need who would warmly welcome a box of freshly grown veg. This is a great opportunity for you to play a part in supporting people in food poverty in the local area. Prices for members are lower than individual boxes meaning it is still more cost effective to be a member even if you miss a few weeks.
Each week we will choose a selection of produce for the shares which will vary over the year according to what is seasonally available in the garden. We are unable to offer a choice of which items go into your share but if there is something that you are unable to eat then please let us know and we can customise your share as best we can. Also as part of the membership we offer a ‘Tir Awen ‘box cook up’ whats app group where ideas, tips and recipes are shared for inspiration on how and what to cook with the latest weekly share.
During the summer and Autumn months we grow all the veg that goes into the boxes. During the winter months and across the hungry gap we do a blend, some of the veg is grown by us and some is sourced elsewhere. It will always be organic and as local as possible, usually from Monmouthshire or Herefordshire. We believe building a network of growers builds strength in our local food system.
We believe in the strength of community networks so please do spread the word and let your friends and neighbours know about the work we are doing.
If you have skills/expertise you would like to share with us or other members, we are trying to build a community who are able to work together to be sustainable and resilient.
Come along and volunteer on our working party days, it is a great way to meet other people, get some exercise, fresh air and find learn some new skills.
If you have any other ideas then please get in touch!
Having a Welsh name is important to us as it directly connects us to the heritage and culture of the land and those that came before us. Welsh place names are descriptive and evoke the characteristics of the place. Tir Awen is a name that is significant to us and represents our association with the site. 'Tir' simply means land. 'Awen' doesn't have a direct translation into English but can be described as inspiration or a muse for poets, bards or other artists. It also carries a strong meaning to Druid traditions depicting 3 rays of light representing past, present and future or love, knowledge and truth. Building a strong connection to Tir Awen has been an inspiration for us and led us on this journey. We hope that it will offer a place of connection for you too.
